Ulsterville Presbyterian Church

137 Lisburn Road Belfast BT9 7AG

Our Minister

Rev Ivan Hull has been minister of Ulsterville since November 1984.

Ivan grew up in Banbridge and graduated from Queen's University, Belfast, in Electrical Engineering in 1963. After a period of working as Area Distribution Engineer with the then Electricity Board for Northern Ireland (now NIE) he studied for the ministry at Union Theological College, Belfast. He graduated in 1976 and after serving as assistant to the Very Rev Dr H Cromie in Railway Street Presbyterian Church, Lisburn, he served as minister in Enniskillen prior to his call to the congregation of Ulsterville.

As well as being minister of the Ulsterville congregation, I have also played an active part in the wider church, in Presbytery and Boards of Church House. I served on the Union Commission, Board of Education, Board of Finance and Personnel and the Committee on Evangelism. I currently chair a panel working on the standardising and computerising of congregational accounts and statistics to replace the old annual query sheet. At Presbytery level, I am convener of the Mission Development Committee of the South Belfast Presbytery.

Apart from my work as minister, I enjoy photography, computing, reading, walking, DIY and gardening and, of course, coffeeing with my friends on a Monday morning.

Ivan is actively supported in his ministry by his wife Margaret, who grew up in Portadown. They were married in 1966 and have three sons, Nigel, Martin and Andrew. Nigel works as an IT Consultant. He is married to Clare and they have three children, Nathan (9yrs), Nicolas (7yrs) and Dara (6yrs). Martin works for British Telecom as a software engineer. He is married to Lucy and they have two children, Megan (10yrs) and Stewart (8yrs) and Jack (5yrs). Andrew is currently living at home and working for a local firm.
